College football picks against the spread: Stewart Mandel’s Week 4 picks

Week 3 was rough on my make-believe wallet, and I’m now in the hole on the season. This week’s games feel easier to predict, though — famous last words in college football.

Especially since I’m picking four underdogs to win straight up.

Last week: 6-5 straight up, 4-7 against the spread

Season: 20-13 straight up, 15-18 against the spread

Maryland at No. 4 Michigan (-16.5), Noon (Fox)

Michigan’s fourth straight home game to start the season and first against a Power 5 opponent certainly marks a step up in competition, but Maryland doesn’t match up well with the Wolverines. Michigan’s pass rush should disrupt QB Taulia Tagovailoa, while the Terps’ defense is susceptible to big plays by an explosive Michigan offense.

Michigan 42, Maryland 24Pick: Michigan -16.5

No. 5 Clemson (-7.5) at No. 21
